Hi all

Ok a friend of mine told me i can make my dvd's and avi's (thats i have on my hard drive, all varying in size and quality) look better by upscaling them. At the monent i use MPC to play them all.

Any ideas what im supposed to do!!?:(:o

Im interested in this too. Although Im guessing that if there is software to do this, the processing required may be quite heavy for all the encoding.

;)Any one actually had sucess with this thing and wish to talk me through the steps to set it up!?

It seems i need to install Zoomplayer then? Will this be as good as MPC ie will play everything like all my avi's etc as well as dvds and so i can ditch uninstall MPC?

http://www.inmatrix.com/ click on the free download (tho i dont knwo that site)... when installing make sure you allow the install of ffdshow.. if you want download the zoomplayer proffesional, just when you first use it you have to wait, liek with winzip....

when in the player, right click at the top, and go into filter properties, then ffdshow video decoder, then the guide i linked should take you from there...

i personally find this the nicest player, as with things liek VLC player i even struggle to load a video from dvd....

Keep using MPC (well switch to MPC-HC if you like, I recommend it), install ffdshow tryouts udner codecs set Raw Video to "all supported" so ffdshow will load with any video then go to the resize settings in ffdshow.

Am I missing something here? All the guides start with this step:

But I only have a "configuration" icon. I'm also missing most of the options within FFdshow

Just use these settings in ffdshow, change the resolution to whatever you want. Keep the rest the same and it will resize it. You might have to install avisynth too.

The first number will always be the width, the second is the height, don't forget the brackets and the comma ;)
It might be a bit too intensive, so you could try changing it to lanczosresize(W, H) (without the 4 in the middle), or spline32resize(W, H) or bilinearresize(W, H). Those are in order of decreasing quality and cpu usage.
