Upsides to PC gaming - debating converting

PC Gaming Pros:

Cheaper games
Greater variety of games
Mouse and Keyboard particuarly well suited for FPS and RTS games.
Games normally look and perform better
Better support for games, i.e. quicker patches and mods
Better communities around games

PC Gaming Negatives:

More likely to be sat on a hard chair than sofa
More expensive to get a good rig
Can experience problems getting some games to work right
Triple A titles made for multiple platforms are tailored for the consoles and their is a tendancy for lazy ports
Some console exclusives missed

Tend to have better graphics. But main reason I play pc is I love creating mods for games.

Main downside for me is the FF games unless online version tend to be console only.

A PC can do everything a console does, better.
I'm mainly into PC gaming because of the other uses of a pc.
You can play strategy games as starcraft etc on PC.
Better FPS controls.
Better visuals.
I also have Xbox controllers so whenever i'm playing things like Street Fighter or Fifa I can enjoy the pad.

I wouldn't disagree. But they're completely different ball parks. Impromtu (party if you will) gaming with a group of people fails hard on the PC imo.

"Come on everyone! Crowd round the PC and share the keyboard!" :p ;)

Agree completely. Used to have fantastic Striker tourny nights on the SNES with my mates - and half of them hated soccer. All you had to bring was beers, snacks, and your best witty put-downs :)

+Bigger backcatalogue
+Cheaper games
+Better modding / tweaking
+Higher framerates
+Better graphics
+PC Exclusive titles
+Quicker load times
+Better multi-tasking (i.e. switching between games and non-games)
+Support for third party apps running in the background while gaming (voice comms, music player, web browser etc)
+Ability to upgrade hardware
+Better peripheral support
+Mouse & keyboard are more suited to certain game genres (FPS, Strategy)
+Typically better multiplayer infrastructure (dedicated servers on good hosts with more user control over settings etc, rather than relying on listen servers / match-making or limited 'official' servers)

On the flipside Console gaming has some advantages over PC gaming, but you didn't ask for those.

I was a console gamer. I was also an early adopter of the eggbox and during my time went through 7 eggbox (mainly through modding and such but that last 2 were untouched and still fried on me).

A PC, especially for gaming, is an investment in your own enterainment. The more you're prepared to spend the better your exerience in general. It's a hobby.

Console gaming does not give you the same scope for expansion as the PC world does. Let's take a Left 4 Dead as already mentioned previously. You buy it for the console - it's an OK game - you finish, maybe buy a couple of DLC's then the game dies as the content dries up and people move on. On the PC a game never dies. The community keeps on delivering content and in many cases improves upon the game for little or not cost to the consumer.

I came back because to the PC (as also mentioned on this thread) because consoles are indeed full of kids.

Just looking back at the posts on here makes it easy to see why the PC gaming community is where to be.

Savings on games may well cover the machine price over time.

I don't think they would for me. I would resell most console games back to Game or Cex. Can't generally recoup money from PC games once they are done.

However if u get hooked on something like Wow you never need to buy a game again that would work out cheaper even with monthly subs (I know I did it for 5 years!)

Cheaper, Higher Res, you can have 60 + fps on any game if you are willing to fork out the cash, larger servers 64+ players etc, mods, DLC is often free, massive Indie game collection and being part of the master race feels pretty cool.

For me though the absolute gem to PC gaming is the fact that games retain communities LONG after their release. On Consoles, a 2 year old games multiplayerwill be dead unless it is Call of Duty whereas the PC gaming community stays alive, I was playing Medal of Honour Allied Assault last night with just as many players on the server as there was when I was playing it 10 years ago. This is the main reason for me.
