Hey guys. Last night I got my new 6950. My mate has the same one however his is ref

I didn't know it was non ref at the time so I flashed it thinking I ha the switch to reset back. Seems I don't

So now I'm running my pc with my 285gtx in slot 1 and ati in slot 2. When I try and flash my original bios back it says subsystem I'd mismatch

Anyone know how I can get it back

I'll be honest I'm panicing and raging at myself for being such a lazy thick fool

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks. Tom

I did a quick search on google and it seems all is not lost.

I found this, which has two differernt soloutions to the problem you mention.http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-58137.html

I had to force flash a 5850 once with its original bios after the new version wouldnt boot, it worked and i got my card back which then worked perfectly.

Thanks for the speedy answer. So from reading that I should be able to change the sub ID and flash it back in atiwinflash? Sorry I'm at work so using my iPhone lol

Unless im mistaken i believe you should try to force flash your original bios back first, then try the subsystem id thing.

Am i ok doing this with the 6950 still in the 2nd slot using:

atiflash -f -p 1 bios.rom

as the command?

edit: i should apologise for not knowing anything about flashing GPU's - and ofc doing it without knowing the concsiquence.

edit2: just checked out the bios i flashed onto my 6950 and it's SSID 1002 (the same as mine)... it's defo gonna be a dos flash i think... :( just hope i can do it with my 285 in, i have no chance blind lol

I had to do the same with my old card. A power color pcs 5850, i checked the bios string after the flash and realised that the one i flashed had a slightly different numbering system. Anyway i had to buy an old pci graphics card off ebay so i could get a display going, then i managed to blind flash the original bios back on having the bricked card in my pci-e slot 1 and the pci card in a normal pci slot showing the display.

I followed this guide, and it worked for me.

http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/593427-how-unbrick-your-bricked-graphics-card.html

I'd imagine you should be able to follow it as you said you have a spare gpu, that is if you have two pci-e slots. Otherwise you need to get a pci card.

Good luck. I'm sure you will be ok providing the bios you added didnt do any longterm damage, and if it was a bios from the same company then i doubt that its done any damage at all just using incompatible memory frequency or something like that.

I hope it is ok.

Is it still possible to unlock the shaders using RBE, rather than putting someone elses bios on my card. I won't be experiementing with my gpu's any more lol this scare has put me off for life :P

I'm not sure. One thing i do know is that the shaders make very little difference to fps it seems according to google. In fact you may as well just overclock the 6950 it only takes a slight bump in mhz to bring it up to 6970 speeds on stock voltage.

I have a 6950 msi twin frozr ii. What card do you have?

As fas as know the only way to unlock the shaders is with a bios flash, there may be another way as you say with RBE but im not familiar with it.

Good news dude. I just tried it on my non reference card and it worked. I now have fully unlocked shaders.

I've saved the original bios incase i ever need to change it back or need to send it back for an rma.

I used this guide http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t355592.html

However i was able to use the batch file he posted so that did all the work for me. I was lucky that he had the exact same card as me, even the bios were identical so i just knew it was going to work.

I'm sure if you follow all those steps it will work for you.
