urgent help for recovering data

My dad's computer no longer boots, so i took the drive out and stuck it in my pc. I did this so that it would show up as a D drive (my original drive is still the boot drive on C ) so that i can copy off the data and then reformat/rebuild it.

When i install it then turn the computer on it freezes on the logo (the windows 7 logo still animates but never goes beyond that, I've given it 10mins then reboot

If i boot up normally then insert the drive physically after it finishes booting up, it shows up properly in Device Manager but never pops up in My Computer and if i right click and choose 'scan for hardware changes' it freezes on that as well.

I don't believe the problem is mechanical, no clicking sounds from the hard drive.

please help!

You have no option but to send it to a data recovery firm at considerable cost.
The drives controller board is probably fried and needs replacing.

If it is the controller board then you can replace it yourself but you would need to source another donor drive of the exact same model with the same firmware.
