Hi,

I recently bought the "Titan Goliath" system from OCuK with the HD 5870 option. I set it up on Friday night and it was working fine until Saturday evening when it froze and I was forced to turn if off manually by holding down the power button. Upon powering it up again it failed to get past the boot screen, showing just a blank black screen. I restarted a few times and it kept doing this.

I then booted from my Windows 7 64bit disc and tried the automatic system repair. This said it couldn't fix the problem. I then tried the /fixmbr and /fixboot commands via the command prompt and received this data error: (Cyclic Redundancy Check).

I then tried to format my hard-drive and received this error: Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057.

I've sent a webnote to OCuK but in the meantime thought I'd try posting my problem here to see if anyone could help.

Thanks for your time!

Well you could take the battery out of your motherboard, This may void your warranty though :/

Don't really see how that could help, and it won't VOID the warranty.

OP, you should check and replug all the cables, especially power cables and SATA cables. Sounds like there may be a problem with the hard disk or possibly memory. You can also reseat the memory and graphics card if you like. (Pop them out and in again.)

Thanks for the replies.

I've tried taking the battery out, checked all the cables, reseated memory and graphics card.

In response to Shakeel, yes it came overclocked from 2.6Ghz to 3.4Ghz (well it was supposed to be anyway).

Go into the BIOS and revert to default settings, then change anything necessary back to what it was, but run it on stock. Do you still get a problem then?

Note OcUK save their pre-built overclocked machines with a profile in the BIOS, so it can be restored later.

I've had kinda problem while installing win7, i've solved it by pulling all usb devices out and disconnected my storage drive.

I'd then get on to testing various components. Not sure how knowledgeable you are so I'll start basic. If you google 'ultimate boot cd' you'll find a really useful disc ISO you can burn off and start up the PC with. It contains various tools to test components. If the above advice doesn't help, I'd start with a memory test. Use memtest 86+ and let it run at least 2 passes (it will become clear when you start the program). Errors appear in red if there's a problem with the RAM. After that, because of the nature of the error, I'd do a hard disk test. You need to find the brand of the hard disk and then select the appropriate test. It should be self-explanatory.

Don't miss the advice given by Phatzy above either. I haven't had that issue but it's worth a go. There are always teething problems with new operating systems.

Thanks alex I'll try that when I get home.

If that doesn't work have you any other ideas?

the only think that i can think of is an unstable overclock. if you reset the cmos and the computers works fine then just get another profile sent you. if not then its something else

OK, came home from Uni today and tried loading default BIOS settings, still no joy.
I decided to try and install XP to see if the Windows 7 CD was dodgey, but after formatting it comes up with the error message "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: ... hal.dll".

I'm starting to think that the hard drive is damaged, which is odd because it's brand new.

OCuK couldn't diagnose the problem via Webnote so I'm going to ring them tomorrow.

Do you know the HDD brand? There should be a test for the brand on the UBCD. You then just run it through, but do make sure you have a backup first if possible.
