hi
I have 2 main hard drives c and f , I connected a laptop hard drive via a usb to do a quick reformat on the laptop hdd unfortuately I selected my f drive by mistake and pressed quick format .,,however after a a second I realised I had selected the wrong one and immedietly shut down the pc .

the f drive now says ...the drive in drive f is not formatted . do you want to format it now ?

I am running windows xp and have had a look in the drive with a program called file scavenger and all the files seem to be intact and ok .....is there a quick and easy way to sort this ?

many thanks indeed

cheers

Theres no quick way that I know of mate. Youll need to run a program like you did and recover everything to another drive. Every write cycle to touch that drive right now erases something on it.

Good luck recovering the files.

Yeah you can use TestDisk to rebuild the MBR on the hardrive. Formatting just deletes the old file system and creates a new one. The data is still intact.

It's a completely free app. Just don't install it on your F drive, install it on a drive that you're not recovering.

Using TestDisk to rebuild the MBR will allow you to access your data again.

I saw a few tutorials on google showing how to do this.
