Ok right in need of some help!
Using my ASUS WL 520GC router as a Wireless access point for my laptop, and so i can still use the internet on the home pc. Went to upgrade the firmware on it about 2 hours ago, downloaded all ok, and was using the utility to install it, it said internet explorer cannot display this page, so tried refresh but said the same.
Ever since has not worked. Tried using the ASUS firmware utility tool, but says that it cannot detect any hardware in repair mode. The ASUS device discovery cannot find my router. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the whole utility but still no luck as it still cannot detect the router.
When i do plug my router in as i should do the LAN1 and WAN and PWR LED all light up, except the AIR LED.
Just need your help to find out how to fix all this!
cheers for your help

The only contact they have for wireless products is an e-mail based thing, cant ring anyone!
Im not sure what that means (embarrased) im an extreme novice when it comes to networking!

Have you emailed them? What about where you got it from?

If the router's default IP is, for example, 192.168.0.1 and your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, your machine would need to have an IP 192.168.0.2-254, i.e. be in the same subnet.

Yer i e-mailed them about 3 hours ago, but guess i wont get a reply until tomorrow. Oright ok, im pretty sure the default ip for the router was 192.168.1.1. the subnet mask is 255.255.252.0. And when im just connected to the internet via the modem it says i have an ip address of 82.22.40.1.

You'll need to connect your machine to the router with a cable, and manually set its IP to 192.168.1.1, subnet mask 255.255.252.0 (odd mask, but whatever).
Then try whatever recovery utility Asus have.

Oright ok thank you! i shall give it a go and see what happens, thanks for your time much appreciated :)

Ok i have tried the above suggestion, but ASUS utility still says it cannot find the router! Do you have any other suggestions of what i can do?

Wrong IP for the machine, my bad - set the machine's IP to 192.168.1.2 rather than 192.168.1.1, and a) see if the utility sees the router b) if you can ping 192.168.1.1 (start, run, cmd, ping 192.168.1.1).

Ok right, if i try and use the utility it does not see the router, if i ping the router it does see it when using the address 192.168.1.2. Im so confused, if i cant get it fixed tonight i will try and return it tomorrow.
