Hi,

I put a Scythe Ninja + on my motherboard, it works very well and there are no problems.

Anyway, I have to send my motherboard back now - it's faulty.

The cross thing that you stick on the back of the motherboard when attaching to socket 775 is stuck, I can't get it off. I guess it's mean to be like this, but I really need to get it off to return the motherboard.

Will I have to ease it off gently with a knife (without touching the motherboard with the knife obviously)? And will I be able to stick it on my replacement?

Thanks,
Craig.

Nobody has a hair dryer in this house :(

And breathing onto it will make it warm and probably work, but that could make the motherboard all condensationy

You gotta be kidding me :(

Then I'd have to re-attach all the other attachments for the Scythe which is pretty tricky & re-do the thermal paste :(

As above if you don't have the hairdryer then power it back up outside of the case.

Please don't just pull it off as someone on here did that and damaged the motherboard!

Stick with it does work, i increased the temperature of the hairdryer over time i would guess i was heating it for at least 15 minutes.

Try this

"Remove the foam from the backplate an go to the hardware store and look for some foam tape that close to the thickness you need. You can also find the foam tape at hobby stores. You can also use Zippo lighter fluid to help aid in the removal of the foam tape, apply some to the edge of the tape, start lifting the plate, the ligher fluid will slowly seep under the tape helping rmove most of it, the just use some more lighter fluid to clean up whats left over.
But do this outside in a well ventelated area and kick any smokers out of the area. the Zippo ligher fluid leaves little to no residue and cleans up really easy, just be smart when handling it. I will not be blamed for any stupidity when useing lighter fluid."

or this

"Okay, I figured out a really easy way of doing this without lighter fluid (because I didn't have any), but this method would still work with lighter fluid.

-Take your choice of solvent, I used Goo Gone, a citrus cleaner with a petroleum base, and soak the foam with it.

-Let it rest for a few minutes.

-Get some Glide dental floss, and work the four corners so that they are separated from the board. Should take you no longer than 2 minutes total.

-Once the corners are free, then take enough floss to wrap around the rest of the secured back plate about 4 times, leaving enough floss at each end to wrap around a rubber handle screwdriver.

-Then just gently pull, and it will cut the foam like butta.

No metallic tools to damage the mobo. Whatever foam is left behind clean up with the Goo Gone. (Most time consuming part)"

It doesn't just fall off, my understanding (as it worked for me) is that the hairdryer softens the glue only. I then got a plastic spatula and eased the plate up working from opposite corner to corner. Once i get get my finger under it it just peeled off easily.

This seems a bit mental. So you can only use it once with one motherboard? glad Im getting a Tunic T 120 then.
