Hi people got a bit of a dilemma and hoping somone can help me asap.
I just received my 3870x2 and have just run into trouble with my power supply. Apparently I should have 2 8 pin pci express connectors and 4 6 pin pci express connectors. So far I cant find the 8 pin connectors so I can install my gfx card.
Would it still work with 2 6 pin connectors? and if it does which side do I put the 2nd 6 pin connector. Right to left or left to right?
A quick answer would be really appreciated

Thanks!

hi

yes it will run fine with the 2 6 pin connectors it just wont o/clock. i thought there would be only one way to fit the pins

cheers

So would you just put the 6 pin connector directly into the middle leaving 2 spaces either side? or have insert it from the either side leaving a gap on the other end?

It will only fit one way, and you can still Overclock using another APP, just not ATI's OverDrive, even then you can short 2 pins and get it working.

When looking at your card from outside the case, you want to be leaving the 2 pins on the left of the connector on right:

Left Connector
:::

Right Connector
|:::

Where the | is, dont have anything connected to it.

Hope that makes sense.

Dont worry, the 8pin is just a new safty standard for PCIE external power connection. The extra 2 pins are just for ground.

IT DOESN'T AFFECT OVERCLOCKING EITHER. :)

You could certainly ignore the wrong info from the first reply post.

Got it working thanks to you guys!
Just annoyed at the fact my psu didn't come with the 8 pin connector like it says it does on the box :S
But once again thanks for the help and it is certainly appreciated :)
