Its not the monitor because ive tried it with a different monitor and the graphics card works but i dont know if its compatable.I also dont know if my ram is compatable either.
Motherboard:Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R
Gcard:gforce 6600
Memory:OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

So you've tried the monitor AND graphics card in a different system? And they work fine?

So what does your system do...does it act as if its posting...or is it literally spinning up with the fans fully ramped and staying there?

Need a bit more info really....I could say have you got the power connector on the graphics card, but im presuming you have =]

ive plugged the power connector into the graphics card and the all the fans spin im not sre if its posting or not tho

Well do you have a case speaker attached? Or is there one on the motherboard? It will help in showing whats wrong.

You could try with just one stick of RAM in each slot as well. But again if you have a case speaker it will help matters.

I had this problem on my new build, all the fans would spin but no graphics. If you have onboard sata jacks (physicaly connected to the mobo) try different ports. if that doesn't help try each ram stick in turn in different slots, could be a faluty stick.
I did all that to mine and it suddenly started working.

Another thing you can try is unplugging un-needed peripherals....cd-rom etc.

Sometimes they can stop systems from booting, had it at work a few times.

Also make sure you have connected the additional 4/8 pin connector near the CPU, common symptom of starting up, fans whirr but doesn't boot up is that not being connected :)

I believe he means the sata connectors on the board =]

Unplug everything that isnt needed...hdd's, cd-rom, floppy etc. Even things like front usb can cause problems occasionally.

Just leave the bare essentials plugged in.

so i dont need my hd plugged in?

Well....for the sytem to boot up and give video no...to install an o/s yes :P

But you can re-attach it once the systems giving you video, and see if its the sata cable / power cable or anything like that giving you grief.

on my mobo (asus striker extreme) I have 6 near the bottom of the board, just below the hdd, its a blue block. if you dont have any sata devices don't worry about it. Also your graphics card may need additional power by way of pci-e power connecters, not too sure with your card though, worth having a look.

I had this when i rebuilt the other day. Does your cooler have a backplate? Mine was shorting the board.

You may have another of the many startup problems though.

First - double check all cables. Including the 4 pin one for the CPU which is occasionally overlooked. The CPU fan is in the correct header? et cetera

First attempt to start up with the minimum number of components.

1 stick of ram, the gfx, and the chip, disconnect everything else.

If it boots, slowly add components until you find the one that doesn't work.

If it fails to POST with minimum components, rebuild out of the case. On the mobo carboard box. Then try to POST again. If that works then there wass an issue with the board shorting on the case. Check the standoffs, for stray screws, et cetera.

If it fails to boot with minimum components, and out of the box, it is conceivably the RAM needing a higher voltage than the board offers. A problem seen a few times recently.

However try all those other steps first.

from the looks of your mobo, just above the cpu socket, nextdoor to the keyboard/mouse ps2 socket, ther's a 8-pin power connecter,4 pins are blanked off by a cover. take that cover off and plug the 8pin connector in.
