Hello. My dad has recently purchased a SATA II HDD: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-036-SA

He has tried installing Windows XP but it only recognises about 193GB. So we downloaded the application off of the Samsung website that is supposed to fix this problem but it does absalutly nothing. XP still reads it as 193GB. I can't think what else to do, we have tried Vista but it doesn't even see the HDD. The motherboard only supports SATA I but the HDD should downgraded from SATA II to SATA I, Is there any other things I must change in order to get it to run properly. Please, please help :(

Other Device information:

Intel Desktop Board D915PGN: http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d915pgn/index.htm

CPU: Intel P4 3.0GHz
RAM: 1GB of 400MHz + 2x 512MB of 333MHz - 2GB of 333MHz
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 6800GT

Please help :(

Right-click the My Computer icon then select Manage. Hit Disk Management under Storage. Any un-partitioned space?

Failing this check:

Latest BIOS drivers
Check to see if there is a jumper to downgrade the drive to SATA I as you definitely can do that with the Western Digital 500Gb SATA II drive :)
Latest update to XP with Service Pack 2

Although the BIOS and SP2 would see the drive appearing as 128Gb rather than 193Gb so sounds like there is un-partitioned space rather than a 48-bit LBA barrier :)
