Urgent Spec Check - is this ok?

As long as it's over 500w and is a good brand it's ok.

My PSU cost £70, firstly because modular cabling is ace and second because as it's the single thing that powers your entire system, you don't want a pants one :)

You're cutting it close but honestly I think you'll be fine with that 380W providing you don't make many more upgrades using it.

Hmmm.. 380w would be fine for that setup in fact at a push you could run two.

Using something called science.....

The earthwatts 380 is rated at 324W DC output +12V
My E4300 @ 1.5v with 2900Pro @ > XT clocks, 3 HDD, 1 optical and 5 120mm fans manages to consume about 250W DC (approx 320W AC with 80% efficiency)

So a more efficient CPU... the 8200 running stock or even a moderate over clock coupled with a GPU than consumes about half that of a 2900XT is going to draw about 150W DC maximum which is approx 50% of the capability of the Antec.

Don't confuse this with a PSU like the Hiper 580W ...... which is really a 360W +12v supply with seriously optimistic labelling.

The antec is in fact only a little less powerful than the Hiper

If you have slow frame rates then it's not the PSU... you either get corruption or a crash. Crysis is a known low FPS game... anything around 30 FPS @ 1280 is normal even with a good card.

You might want to take a look at VR-zone ... the quote a full system with an 8800GT and Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9650 to be 204W AC so converting to DC rated PSU @ 80% effeciency that's a mere 163W.... for a quad.

OCUK should up the timeout..... bored of getting logged out while responding to a post

Vegetarian: you can with the latest bios, runs all the 45nm chips.

Well, I put the new PSU in last night and straight away I noticed the difference in crysis. The frame rate is much more consistant. I can only think that the 380w stock PSU wasn't supplying enough juice when things were getting busy.

Infact I've even upped the details to Very High on some settings and it's still much more playable.

Decto:

Looking around at other benchies it seems like a 8800GT is capable of running 1280x1024 with everything on high at ~45fps. I know Crysis is a system killer but 45fps on high is plenty :-). I'm well happy now, but gonna try a bit of an overclock on the CPU and GC and see how I get on.

Thanks guys for the advice (should have just got a big PSU in the 1st place).
