US iphone repairs in UK?

When I mentioned that I highly doubt Apple will repair under warranty, I was referring physical damage which could also have potentially caused the Wi-Fi issue.

Well you seem to be agreeing with me :) but it was this comment which confused me:

I highly doubt Apple will repair your iPhone under warranty since the damage has been caused by the previous owner.

The phrasing made it look like you were saying a warranty repair would be refused as the damage was caused by the previous owner, as opposed to the current one, which was why I was asking what that had to do with anyway.

In retrospect, I think you meant that the damage was caused by any user and thus not covered.

If its still under warranty there's no harm in just walking into the store and asking them to have a look at the wifi. If they don't ask don't mention about it being from the States (if they have any issues with its origins this will come up when they check the serial).

If they want to talk about the physical damage just say that you are fine with it and that you just want the wifi fixed. It doesn't seem too bad for a warranty case anyways there have been people who had giant cracks on the casing who have had them replaced.

And if they do decide to sort out your problem its likely they will just give you a refurbished model so no worries about those scuffs.

I just noticed what you said about the screen. Now usually if theres a screen problem that can be classified as an issue not caused by yourself (ie dust under the screen assuming you didn't open it) and there is no other issues they usually replace that on the spot too (on warranty). As I said theres no harm in approaching the store and seeing what they can do for you. Take on an uninformed attitude and be polite.

Best of luck.

P.S as someone said check that the moisture indicators haven't been set off.

Well first things first...

Apple only provide support for phones in their locality, that is UK services in UK, USA in USA etc.

The damage on the back is not to severe but the warranty is not there to protect against accidental damage its there to protect against defects.

There are known issues with 3.0 + wifi you should check apple.com/support for information about fixing those issues.

As for the dust if the phone has no signs of opening it is likely the dust has built up on the rim of the screen and been dislodged after dropping, but i am confident this would be a fair enough reason to replace the unit.

The replacement may contain refurbished parts but these parts are heavily tested and outer cases are in like new condition.

Your main problems are with the fact that its an american iPhone.

Yeah when I was seeing a Genius in Regents Street (I was looking for you, couldn't see you though, some guy with big curly hair served me), the woman next to me was getting in a huff because they wouldn't repair her phone because it's from the US.

Yes I am well aware that it is an American iPhone and that this could lead to him getting straight out rejected.
HOWEVER my point was that there would be NO HARM in walking into an Apple Store if he were near one and asking if they could do anything. The worst thing they can do is turn you down.

There was no need to have a rant at me for suggesting that.

Sorry if you misunderstood but I was not ranting at you so calm down. I do know my stuff and dropping by is always a bad idea as the bar works in appointment basis you should book an appointment to get it taken a look at but the serial will be entered to validate the warrenty and the water marks checked. Before they start. If you don't have an appointment you might not get seen.

Yeah, I do know how it works. I've had service on my iPhone too. I didn't have an appointment at the genius bar but the guy I spoke to was very nice and accommodating and gave me a standby appointment ten minutes after entering the store. Five minutes after my appointment started I walked out with a replacement unit.

Yes there's a good chance they wont see you, yes they are very busy and yes you SHOULD book an appointment beforehand, however I have found from a lot of previous experience that Apple staff are generally very good and do try hard to help you. If they are so busy that they can't do anything for you that's just tough luck and hence why I said to pop in IF you just HAPPENED to be passing by.

I am also aware of the (not so) multitude of tests that they do on the device (1- restore, 2- serial check and 3- water trigger test) and it is likely that the OP gets caught out at test 2. Another reason why I said to just pop in if he was passing by. Apple don't have to help you, but it is up to the members of staff and there have been a large number of "on good faith" repairs (except water damage).

Don't expect it, but like I said it wouldn't hurt.

So really to re-iterate my point if you are walking along the high street and just happen to pass by an Apple store on your way to wherever just pop and see what they have to say. The worst they can say is No and they won't chase you out the store with pitchforks and torches for not booking an appointment.

Just to give you the update; booked into the Trafford Centre, Genius bar. First thing they do after greeting us, is take out the sim tray and check the Serial number; to which they tell us, the phone was bought in Canada, and say sorry whilst embarrassingly plonking a little policy statement infront of us, then taking a step back.
Tried to take it further as filling out the warranty finder correctly on the Apple website, had told me I was valid for service from the Genius bar, in the UK and could/should have told me there and then I was not eliglble for service, surely? I was pretty humiliated by the manager, I only tried to explain the position I had arose in, to which he kept cutting me off and not even listening. He sneered at my partners sillicone "faux chocolate bar" case and again plonked the policy in front of us, really sarcastically/patronisingly handed our phone back to us; "There's your phone." and plonked the policy back infront of us.
Embarrassing I say again. We had been polite and friendly though they would not even listen.

Basically we bottled it, with the seller asking for the phone back before a refund and with the waiting and shipping (Canada); not my wishes at the time, as I have said, though thankfully all is sort of ok now.
We have a couple of nice cases for the phone, which totally hides the dings in the back, the screen is virtually perfect. (You have to really look, with the phones backlight off to see the pubes and dust in the phone.)
Yes, the wifi still does not work, though overall we could have done worse, oh and we got $40 of the price before we would leave positive feedback, all he had in his paypal account apparently? still every little helps.
Cut a long story short konstantin_0077 tried it on with us, I reckon, because we asked him to underestimate the item before sending and shipping it as a gift, to avoid taxes and slung us a naff iphone. We shot ourselves in the feet with this one, o well. You live and learn.
