US 'should host Premier matches'

I dont like the idea one it. Regarding premiership games over there, no chance. It would be a stupid idea. How would they know if the fixture is home or away for a team. The fans would loose out, season tickets holders especially. Paid that money to watch thier team. Fair enough, they might get a refund for that particular game. On the other hand though, they might not do and have the choice of going to America to watch thier team which will cost a fortune.

I guess, some of the backroom staff at the larger clubs might go for it, financial gains to be made. I think the players would'nt like the idea, with jet lag and what not to deal with. Having to go over there a couple of days earlier and get used to the climate. There is no way really one team could have a game on saturday, come back home, train and go back for another game the next saturday. The players would be knackered even if they are superstars.

Plus, the kick off times of the games over there would'nt suit the UK audience. The times would be all over the place. I think SKY would have word about that. There would be money to be maded and lost with games over there.

Im up for playing a couple of friendly's over there, with 2 English sides against each other to boost the English game out of season, but when the season has started, the games should be played in England the relavent teams ground.

I can't see why some people seem to be acting as if this will be the end of the world if it happens?

Bringing NFL to the UK was a big step for that franchise, American football isn't a huge sport over here and is seem way down the pecking order compared to football and rugby and it got a huge turnout.

Football in America however, is bordering on the 3rd biggest sport in America with Baseball slipping in the last few years or so.

However I'm not 100% for it, they'd have to pick the date they did it extremely carefully.

The regular season it pretty crammed full of fixtures for the big clubs in this country - with Carling Cup, FA Cup, Premiership and Champions League/Uefa Cup matches all squashed in at times.

I'd be worried for the teams that had a game in the states on a Sunday, Champions League game midweek and a Premiership game the next weekend.

I think, given the big money American owners now in the premiership, and the success of the NFL game coming over here, it's also bordering on becoming inevitable.

No, no no. Not a single official league or cup game should be played anywhere but the home sides ground.

With all the foreign owners in the game poised to suck it dry I hope the Premier League or F.A put the brakes on any moves to make this happen.

If you're happy for foreign investment to come into the game - by virtue of the fact that you continue to watch it I assume you are - why are you so against the Premier League exporting itself to boost its brand awareness?

The game is global whether you like it or not.

What?

So if something happens in my favourite sport I don't like I should just stop watching it?

The most infuriating thing is English clubs don't need foreign investment, but if the owners want to sell to these vultures then who can stop them?

The game is global yes, it's why we have a world cup and various continental cups. The English FA Premier League however, is very much an exclusively English based competition and that's how it should remain.

Edit - Excluding a couple of Welsh clubs who could potentially get in. :p
