I just wondered at what point will society get out of the habit of saying "gay" when they mean simply "I don't like this".
I'm no saint and have used it often in the past but I cant help thinking that if we'd all started saying "oh thats black" or "oh thats so female" that it may not have caught on. Hardly a thread anywhere on the internet goes by without someone saying it. It's being used almost like "lol" in some respects as people who are unable to conjure a reasonable and original thought just resort to "gay".
I could understand it to a degree when it was used to describe something perhaps effeminate like a pink car or a guy using moisturiser. But its just spiralled into the general lexicon and now it seems everyone is using it because they just can't be bothered to think of a word longer than three letters!
It doesn't bother me, and it probably doesn't bother most gay people, but is it not a little bit wrong?
NB. I fully expect at least one smartass "this is gay" reply so thanks for reading.
