Hi all

Ever since a format and reinstall on a Advent 7084 laptop I cannot get the 4 usb ports to be seen as USB 2 (which they are ;) ) which is annoying when u plug something in and it gives you the message 'this device.......blah....blah.In the device manager under USB ports I have 4 Intel(r) 82801FB/FBM USB host controller being seen and then 4 USB root hubs.

I guess its the root hubs giving me the probem. I've downloaded the latest Intel chipset drivers but it hasnt help

Anyone any ideas

UPDATE:

Justed relise the drivers are dated : Microsoft 01.07.01 version:5.1.2600.2180

but I cannot seem to intall newer drivers at all

gives us a screenshot of usb devices in device manager, 'enhanced' means the usb2 driver is loaded

-try updating the driver for each root hub, if it asks for a location, put E:\i386 (or whatever drive the windows cd is, and leave that in the drive)

just uninstall "all" the usb and reboot. (device manager).

It will then pick up the drivers again.

This could be to your chipset drivers too, so look into your motherboard driver set.

Ok got it sorted now. went in add/remove programmes and found some preinstalled USB drivers, uninstalled them and rebooted evey thing is now tickety-boo. Driver version now shows up as Intel and also have an Enhanced USB controller

Thanks everyone
