I got this

USB 3.0 Controller card, put it in a PCIe x 1 slot, plugged in molex power, installed the USB 3.0 software from the disc and it seemed to work. It recognised my new external drive (Samsung F3 1TB) but when I copy to it, it's only copying at about 25 to 35 MB/second, according to Windows 7.

I'm using the USB 3.0 cable that came with the enclosure. USB 3.0 is suposed to do up to 300 MB/second isn't it? Even Windows is saying it could work faster by using USB 3.0!? Anyone know what's wrong here?

Cheers.

quite a few different usb3.0 cards require external power. sounds like a driver issue to me if windows is telling you usb3.0 would be faster

Agree, windows would not tell you to use USB3 if you already are. Is it defintly installed as USB3 on the card, is it a USB3 cable, and is it connected to the correct port on the drive.

Yes it seemed to install ok and now a USB Host Controller and USB 3.0 Root Hub both show up in device manager. It's the cable that came with a USB 3.0 enclosure and it looks right, so I think it must be. There's only one port on the enclosure for the drive.

Don't meant to high-jack the thread but i've just bought a mobo with USB 3.0, will I need to install the software for that or will it be just like 2.0 and work?

Thanks.

You might want to just verify that the problem is with the USB controller so I run hd tech on your external drive just to check it's operating correctly.
