Hey guys,

Would USB 3.1 be fast enough not to bottleneck an NVME drive if i bought an adapter?

I also have USB 3.1 Type C port on the back of the motherboard too next to the USB 3.1 port, just unsure if its a viable option or which of those two are faster.

cheers!

USB 3.1 Gen1 is 5Gb/s, Gen2 being 10Gb/s. Would be a bottleneck of the full sequential transfer speed on Gen1 for sure, but not by a lot, and the main advantage of nVme is the random read/write speed so you really wouldn't notice the difference.

Hmm unsure what to do, I see the adapters are around 30 or so quid, thinking may be a better option just to go for a 1TB nvme drive instead, I currently have 2x 256gb nvme drives but I can only use one of the two internally atm because if I use the second one it disables the 4th pcie slot which I need for my sound card which is why I was looking at using the other one externaly lol

If it's for games or whatever you would not notice the difference I don't think. However it does make more sense to just get a bigger internal drive. I have 1.5TB of nvme and still need more haha.
