Hey,

I recently bought an USB 3.0 external hard disk drive. However when copying data to the harddrive i am getting extremely slow speeds (for usb 3) around 20-30mb/s. I thought usb 3 was supposed to run at 70mb/s+. Are there any things on this motherboard that i have to enable to make the harddrive run correctly or at the correct speed.

Also does anyone have this motherboard that can confim the usb 3 speeds on this motherboard.

I will post screen shots later.

Thankyou for any help that you can give me with this issue.:

How are you measuring the speeds?

measuring them when copying files in realtime on windows. Why is there some software or something that i should be using to test the speeds.

The speed Windows reports firstly isn't always accurate and more importantly will vary depending on the size of the files being copied - a 1Gb file will transfer faster than 1000 1Mb files due to the number of file table updates required.

Something like ATTO Disk Benchmark or HDTune will give you a better idea of what the true speed is.

i have this motherboard but have not used the usb 3 ports yet but have u

1 Have you installed the driver as windows needs the driver to operate the usb 3 ports even windows 7 needs theses drivers.

2 have them enabled in the bios

3 using the right 2 usb 3 only ports at the back of the motherboard, as this motherbaord has 10 usb ports only 2 are usb 3 and a coloured different from the rest.

4 using a usb 3 cable to connect the drive.

make sure you do all of the above 4 things and it should be ok even when you install the drivers you should have a NEC Electronics utilitie in your programs window to show the usb 3 driver is installed prop

hope this helps

its on the cd you get with the motherboard it should have a usb3 driver install, you should realy install the drivers from the motherboard cd anyway when you first built a pc or install windoes from a fresh or get the latest drivers from the manufactures website. there are 2 drivers for the usb 3 one for the driver and one for the controller

in my device manager under universal serial bus controllers it should have a driver saying NEC electronics USB 3.0 host controller and root hub if it does not you dont have the driver installed to operate the usb3 ports

what does the utility do, i have it on my ASRock but it just has a drop down menu for my 2 USB 3.0 Host Controllers, no other buttons or options, or is this it?

Those are USB2 speeds.

Are you sure your external HDD is USB3?

Are you sure you're using a USB3 port on your PC? These are usually blue.
