Have just updated my drivers for my Speed touch 330 modem and changed the USB transfer mode to 'Isochronous'. Now I'm on an 8 meh ADSL max package and connect at 6.5 Mbps.

Now, I always use Getright where possible to download larger files as I get slightly better speeds. However, to my surprise Getright is displaying 472 KB/s - this wasn't even a burst speed, it remained at 450 plus for the whole 380 MB file. Anyone know why, or is this Getright playing silly buggers?

EDIT: just tried another segmented download from that site and got:

Well before this driver update I never got above 330 ish. But have just tried a few other sites and am getting 400 plus. Thats pretty good considering imo with Pipex ;)

I've achieved close to 400 on a 4mb line...admittedly it hasn't come close to that since, but it'd be entirely feasible on an 8mb one.

It's the driver update that fixes things - USB bulk transfer mode blows for anything >~4Mbps. The best option is to use ethernet.

I was surprised that there was anyone left with enough patience to still be using those USB modems, I must say.

well sharing the internet is becoming very annoying lately. So ill be getting a router in the near future :)
