USB Audio Interface vs Mixer advice

It's the Windtech Popguard 2000. Only place to get it other than importing is from Amazon for around £25.

It's expensive but discreet and very high quality. I read up about cheaper ones not being good or breaking and it's better to just get a quality one and that will last.

Ah, very nice.

I had wondered if attaching to the mic itself would cause any sound quality issues, as in changing the sound going through the mic, versus a free floating design like goosenecks or those RODE ones. I presume nothing on yours?

No issues at all, it keeps it from popping when speaking and anything that comes out of your mouth off the mic itself. It doesn't affect the quality or sound of the mic at all, I feel if anything it keeps a bit of the sound around me out although that could just be a placebo feeling.

Well worth the money and Amazon UK have brilliant returns if your unhappy. It's a really well made pop filter, looks the part and does the job.

Ah, very nice then! The last issue I can think of is... well, I couldn't use any dust covers on my mics with that thing on, could I? With the way it mounts. I like to use dust covers to protect my condensers considering how sensitive they are.

Nope, with a shockmount and the popguard on no room for anything else.

I wouldn't worry about a dust cover if your room isn't that dusty, i just pop the pop filter off every week and clean it up and dust it and no problems.

What extra space? :p

See here, it comes with a dust cover you can slip on easy. :p It's just a fair tad bulkier than your setup.

That isn't bad at all, prefer it being more streamlined though. Before i got this i was looking at the Rode NT-USB though but decided to go XLR for better control.

Yeah that was my issue, this is perfect for being on a standard mic boom, but on a desktop as a boom arm it is a tad on the unwieldy and bulky side (can't tip the microphone upside down so well to keep the mic from obscuring you too much when gaming with it, or something). It just reminds me of a sleeker 'ghetto' setup where you have a bulky ass gooseneck pop filter in front of a large shockmount or something I often see on youtube.

Where is your interface on that picture? (also is that a butterfly knoife?!).

Unfortunately when I attach the pop filter to my shockmount it makes my mic stand sag. I can live without it though as the procaster has an integrated pop filter but there is no chance I will pay £100-150 for a heil or k&m branded stand that has similar length hust so I can use an external pop filter.

Yeah looks good for being on a boom rather than a arm.

It's the little red box under the far right of the monitor stand, can barely even see it. Nah it's my Leatherman was using it to tighten the screw on something and left it on my desk.

My boom arm cost me £7 and has the shockmount and pop filter attached and once tightened hasn't sagged once in over a month of using.

It's a bit of a mouthful but got this on the rainforest - YIGO Professional Recording Adjustable Microphone Fold Mic Suspension Boom Scissor Arm it;'s £7.29 and more than holds the weight of my mic, shockmount and popfilter.

I need the reach and height with mine but I put the pop filter back on and it's holding up just fine.

There are some really nice stands out there like the yellowtec stuff but I guess it is priced high as it is aimed at professional broadcasters.

I did have a similar stand to yours also, I guess they are all more or less the same apart from the name. Here is some comparison pics I took back when I bought the Citronic.

Looks good, was going to go with an expensive one then thought i'd try a cheaper one first as i'd already upgraded pc, bought a new mic setup and a headset. :D

The most common stands used are the RODE PSA-1 or the HEIL PL-2T. A bit more expensive but they do the job well and hide those naff springs! I personally prefer the RODE because of it's base - very large. Those cheaper C-clamps in my opinion are worthless.

Yeah i'll get the RODE PSA-1 at some point, just didn't want to spend £70+ for one with all that i had bought at the time! :p

Happy with the setup for now anyways. :)
