USB-C across the board?

How do folks.

I reckon Apple are going to make a strong move towards unification of connectivity across their entire range soon - Swap the iPhone's lightning for usb-c, sack off the last remaining non-usb-c port (headphone jack) from the macbooks to push for usb-c headphones (a new range of Beats maybe).

A lot of people don't like this move, I personally applaud the big pushes forward. What do you all reckon?

The rage would be intense if they changed lightning to USB-C. More so when they went from 30-pin to lightning not so long ago.

Given how messy USB-C is I can't see Apple moving to it any time soon, they have plenty of their own issues with cable and port compatibility without adding to it further.
USB-C also would take the proprietary control out of Apples hands as well, reducing licensing and royalty fees from 3rd party manufacturers and that I just don't see it happening.

And yet discontinuing lighting ports on their laptop range clearly leaves them with no other route than to abandon it on the phones. Unless they plan to continue with current incoherent setup where their own headphones don't fit their phones, their monitors don't fit their workstations, and their workstation storage solutions can't be utilised by their laptops.

I have to say, I was wondering the same thing recently. If Apple are embracing the standard of USB-C then it only makes sense for them to do so with their phones and tablets too.

I see what you're saying about the backlash if they killed Lightning, but right now a new apple laptop can't connect to an Apple iPhone without a dongle - They can't be content with that...
