USB Device issue

Hi everyone,

I'm RMA'ing my PSU, so today I took it out and put in my old faithful corsair TX850w whilst I'm waiting for the RMA service to sort itself out.

Now I obviously had to go about unplugging everything from the back so I could pull the PC out and change the power supplies over. When I booted back up again I had to reinstall the device drivers for most of my USB devices :(. Just wondering if anyone knew why this was? And if there is a way to avoid this in the future?

I think I did swap the USB's around a little, as in I didn't plug the USB's back in the same slot, would this be anything to do with it?

(PS, I wasn't sure where to put this really, but since I'm not sure of the issue general hardware seemed best, if not, please move it wherever you feel is best :D).

As you did not plug the USB into the correct slots then the drivers would be re-installed.

I honestly had no idea about this, seems like something everyone should know :p.

So lets say now I plugged it back into it's original slot (which I won't be since I don't remember which ones went where, waaaaayy too many of them for that sort of thing ;)), would the drivers need re-reinstalling? Or would the original USB, and the current one both remember it?

EDIT: Also, I really hope my bios hasn't reset :(

If I remember rightly it only does it if you change USB ports, if you put the device back into its original port then it should not re-install.

Your BIOS should be ok :)

Ok, great thanks :). A little off topic question, but how long does the pc have to be without power for the bios to be reset? Just don't want me resetting it by accident when messing about inside it :p

Thanks again

Depends on how good the CMOS battery is :p, weeks or years
