hi

specs below .. put in the mobo yesterday and i got usb power surge messages when i plugged in my zen vision m. Then i went on to get usb device not recognised whenever i plug it in. I removed all software and reinstalled today whilst now running windows and creative updaters but today the player doesn't recognise it's docked, but i get the message in windows when i plug it in? the player was showing a docked symbol on screen when plugged in yesterday.

I've also installed chipset drivers.

any suggestions please? it was working before on my old PB system :(

thanks

Have you tried that it works in other PC?

Also that kind devices should work directly as removable mass storage without any kind extra drivers/bloatware.

are you using the usb from the back or from a header. if its a header check you have wired it in correctly.

if its not check the device in another machine. If that works check another device in the back of the motherboard.

hmm checked in bios to see if usb is enabled?

Yeah the port works with other stuff mate,

I'll wire up my old pc tomorrow and check .. although I think I got the same message after i reformatted. I did format using the same copy of windows for both machines if it helps. Only started giving me issues when i reformatted tho it used to work on that machine with the other copy of windows.

since you got a new mobo have you tried updating the USB drivers? also try what EsaT said.

By USB Drivers do you mean chipset drivers acid? I installed the latest chipset drivers.

Yeah I've tried a header from the back and an extra asus PCI plate thing with 2 USB ports with no luck. I will try it in my old machine tomorrow.

thanks blokes.

you can delete, upgrade and roll back USB drivers. cant remember where you have to look. But reading from other peoples posts i dont think it'll help any more.

Tried it in a vista pc downstairs .. rather than autofinding any drivers or showing it just as a hard drive i got the same usb device not recognised message ...

I've tried uninstalling drivers and seeing if it'll auto detect but it never does and as to rolling them back windows just tells us there were never any on there.

ah right ok then, well chances are if you tried them on another machine it gonna be very hard to get whatever was on there off.

Not bothered about getting what's on there off mate as I have it all backed up anyway .. I just go on holiday in 3 weeks and need to have it sorted by then really. I'm going to put another version of XP on my old pc tomorrow and hopefully it'll work. Then I'll just have to figure out what I need to do to get it working on my main pc .. :/

edit : thanks AND will have a read

does anyone think it could be a problem with the cable? The zen unit itself is fine and charges using this cable but is i have read about new cables fixing people's usb not recognised issues.
