Hi Guys n Girls,

Just considering at the moment. I'm about to start treking down to London once a week on the train/bus with work, and intend to make use of the time to do uni work.

I've found with my mobile (HTC Wildfire on Orange) that Data coverage can be a bit sporadic, and performance isn't always great (read unusable at times, regardless of signal strength), so I'm wondering if a dedicated dongle could be any better.

This will be really casual use, so ideally I'd prefer pay as you go, and I need it to be compatible with our Macbook Pro (windows and OS X side ideally).

Any suggestions of dongle and network would be greatly appreciated. It will just be used for getting on the OU pages and research of online resources, no huge data required for streaming videos etc !

I don't beleieve there is any significant difference between data on a mobile and a USB dongle as far as performance goes, I think its all down to the network really. You might be better off switching providers rather than devices, or finding someone else on the journey who uses orange data, see if its any better?

Hmmm ok. I have always struggled for decent data connectivity with my Wildfire on Orange. A few guys in the office with Android phones (various, various networks also) all said they noticed data wasn't as good as on their iPhones they moved from (various models, various networks) so I presumed unfairly it was just a 'feature' of these phones.

Any recommendations on decent networks, dongles and pay as you go data only options then?

I have a Huawei E586 MiFi dongle running with Three. It's great for connecting all your devices to and the speed is pretty fast. I find the signal strength to be quite good too, it can get better reception than my mobile.

Hey guys dont want to sound like taking over the htread

I just got one on 3. at home to dongle work fine and its really fast however when we take it to our shop and wont connect all. dongle is fine on the same laptop at home. also our phone are receiving full signal as well
