For some reason my usb drive will not install automaticlly when i plug it in my usb port, put it's only since i did clean install of vista, before it was working fine:mad::confused:

I'm using vista ultimate 64bit

Do any other USB devices work? Could it be you are using a faulty usb port? Does the drive work in another PC? Do you have the motherboard drivers installed? Is there an enrty or it in device manager under unknown devices?

Nope, i've looked around and it seems it's a problem with vista(surprise surprise)

the usb drive works fine on my xp set up

You installed chipset drivers for your motherboard?..btw I'm using Vista x64 and the following work great, 4GB USB flash drive,256MB USB flash drive, external USB DVD burner,7 port external USB hub,USB printer,USB gamepad,USB bluetooth,USB keyboard,USB mouse,LG mobile phone via USB,56k USB modem(backup for my cable)

So you can see Vista has no problems with my USB devices ;).

Btw try formatting it in XP then try it in Vista.

i have vista ultimate and for some reason it wont automatically look in SYSTEM32 where the drivers for usb devices are and i have to manually point it to go there and it select it.

happens if say, i plug my usb mouse into a different port it needs to detect drivers, well it doesnt :/

had the same problem, i fixed it by upgrading the vista to sp1, wonder if your method would have fixed my problem too

Highly unlikely as it is not a known issue that SP1 will fix - well its not on my list of current fixes and I'm officially beta testing SP1.

I am having this problem at present would you mind uploading your new inf file and posting a link so that I can sort this problem out.

Thanks
James
