My younger brother uses his old MP3 player, a Creative Muvo USB stick (64mb) to cart files between home and college.

The memory seems corrupt. I am unable to format.

Is there a free application that will allow me to perform a low-level format to try and cure the drive?

Thanks.

Cant windows do it?

Plug it into your pc right click on my computer and click "manage" then click disk management . Click driver f or whatever your mp3 player is called and then right click on the bar of the driver click on format.

I did this to a pen drive when it decided to not work and it worked ok.

I had that with my old USB stick.. It started off as being unable to read some of the files on it, formatting it sorted it for a while but then a few weeks later it wouldn't even format and I was left with a dead stick:(

No offence but of course I had tried the usual stuff before posting.

Thanks guys, it's only 64mb so I think it's one for the bin.

Em, had a 128 MuVo orignal then 512MB TX. I think there's a recovery mode which involves holding down the play button for 10 secs when connecting. Can't find the details here with me so try searching Creative support website. If i find anything will try & post :)

Found them :D
  1. Hold down the Play button on the MuVo while inserting it into the USB slot. Keep holding the Play button for 5 to 10 seconds. Allow your PC 30-60 seconds to detect the device
  2. Once detected . Click on Start - Programs - Creative - Nomad MuVo - Format, utility to recover\ format your unit. Note: Any data you have on the MuVo will be lost if you use the recover\format option
  3. After the unit has been formatted, disconnect it, and reinsert it into the battery pack and hold down Play button until the LED turns green, then release the button and the LED should turn red.
  4. Hold down the button again, so that the MuVo powers off, then reinsert it into your PC and copy some MP3 or WMA files to it.
  5. Remove the MuVo from the system again, reinsert it into the battery pack and power it on, it should now play the files you copied onto it.
