As per title,
today I plugged a 2.5" hdd in an enclosure via usb and instead of a nice blue light I got a nasty ticking noise as the hub I had plugged it into, whilst being a powered hub, was somehow unplugged at the time and I didn't notice.

I take it there's nothing much I can do beside taking it out of the enclosure and checking its SMART status ? I'm assuming the ticking was likely it repeatedly failing to spin up the drive ?

I've had it running for about an hour since, updating and installing programs on a Windows XP VM on the disk and no obvious problems.

mine does that now and again when i plug the wrong usb in (one end has 1 the other has 2 like a Y split in lead) just ticks and doesnt spin up/show in windows

works fine once I connect the right one so dont think it does any harm (might do long term but had this about 3 years now lol)
