Yesterday i backed everything up ready for the format i did today on my USB 120GB FreeCom drive. After the format, i put my HDD in and it loaded up fine, and ran SP1 for Vista from it. Now, after that completed, whenever i reconnect the drive to my PC, the light on the HDD comes on and i can hear it spinning, but windows simply doesnt register it. No *ding* noise, nothing. Ive tried it on 2 other PC's and both have the same outcome. Please tell me this drive isnt dead, its got absolutely everything on it (including my GTA IV 100% save !) :(

Not sure I follow that. The external is supposed to hold the backup files, but it isn't recognised? Can you take it out the caddy again and connect it as an internal drive?

Man, your a life saver ! I never thought to open but thought sod it whats there to lose and......... i never expected to find a miniture sata drive :p (Guess im a total noob with these things). Connected it up and everythings still there thank god :) Must be a faulty USB connection then. Thanks !

Sorry to bring this back up but, anyone have any idea why using the drive via USB would just stop working like that ? Everything looks fine from what i can see, no broken wires etc, very strange :(.
