USB Install

Tried all ways on the USB, all go to a black screen after the windows sign, Not sure wtf is happening!
Have you tried waiting?

Just leave it at the black screen for about 10 mins.

Edit: Also monitor the HDD activity LED while it's at the black screen. Good way to tell if it's actually doing anything.

Yeah man waited half an hour at the black screen the usb stops and my keyboard goes off, quite a annoying error or whatever!

Since findout out that you can install from USB I have not bothered to use any of my DVDs

The advantage of the USB is that you can also chuck things like Drivers and utilities onto it too!

With the price of USB flash drives dropping like flies, I have gone out and bought myself a whole load of USB drives and they all have a copy of Windows thats specific to their particular PC, each with the correct utilities and drives etc.

The Tool I mainly use is the Microsoft one... Its called Windows7-DVD-USBTool.exe and its a tiny 900K and so bugger knows where I got that from, but if you cannot find it, EMail me and I will happily chuck you a copy.

I have also used WINtoFLASH ( http://wintoflash.com/ ) however I have had a few niggles with that... Not many granted, but some... Its more forgiving on the ISOs than the MS one is.

He can find this in the Microsoft link in my post.

Having the USB as NTFS makes no dIfference with this technique.

Open cmd and then type each of these as a new line
Type
Diskpart
List disk (and remember the number of your USB stick)
Select disk 3 ( assuming 3 is your USB stick)
Clean
Format fs=fat32 quick
Active
Assign
Exit

Note what drive letter your cd is and your USB. In this example, d for cd and e for USB

In the run box, type:

Xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:

Easy :)

Basically I copied it all on the usb fine just for some strange reason, it goes to a black screen just before normally it would start the setup!

Oh thaty happens to me sometimes too!

I think its down to the Flash drive.

For example, I have SANDISK, PNY and VERBATIM Flash drives and these are all 100% fine 100% of the time.

My Corsair Patriot XT ( USB 3 ) goes black, or just gives me a flashing underscore and fails to boot, as does my intenso Flash Drives.

So, I would say that you need to try a different flash disk.

Irritatingly, as a laugh, I also found out that my mobile phone works great as an installation device when connected through USB cable.

I have used wintoflash, going through CMD and copying files over.. mostly everything. Yes I am using USB to boot first.

Try using the Win USB/DVDtool in the link i posted previously. I use this all the time and have never had a problem. I`m still using my old Lexar Firefly 8gb.

Yeah mate, only problem I extracted the file from my disc of Windows 7 to my PC. Tried using the ISO and it says not valid, got a program to extract iso from the disc straight up? Cheers.

What are the flash drives that you are using?

Its clear that either your ISO is corrupt or your Flash drives are bum

One thing thats confusing me is that you say that the program is telling you that the ISO is not valid and therefore you would not have been able to make the Flash drive bootable from it, but if thats the case, then come come you have done it enough to try booting from it?

Has it ever copied over at all or not?

This is idlemans link - As he pointed out, this is the one I didnt remember the link for and for sure I have it now LOL

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

If this fails and your ISO is a good one, then PEBCAK

Basically I have a windows 7 disc, do you know any way to extract a iso from it like a good program to do it or something..that's what I have been asking for.

I used that program at first, turns out I did not even choose the output format to .iso was .ufi or something, making it on the tool now will let you know how it goes soon!
