usb keyboard support?

Hi people,
does anyone know if theres a way to use a usb keyboard in bios, my motherboard (asus a8n pemium) doesnt seem to have a usb keyboard option, which is a pain becouse the only ps\2 keyboard i have is a horrible old crappy one and i really wanna use my usb cordless keyboard

as far as I have been able to determine, because USB ports are dependant on Windows/Op Sys drivers, they don't work until Windows boots, PS2 only for me at least if you wanna mess with Bios
Only good thing is that you can just plug in the PS2 one to use in bios then unplug it when you boot and use the USB one!
If you have say a USB external sound card you can see it power up during the Windows boot routine, never before :confused:

my old Abit Nf7 Socket a motherboard supported USB keyboards in the bios, how come a more modern motherboard lacks this feature?

Strange - i agree newer motherboards should be able to support USB keyboards in BIOs as the USB port are on the motherboards. So in theory they should be poweed up in boot and not windows. Ive seem some motherboards with no PS slots. So maybe this feature is in them. Only way to find out is buy one.

i've not used a modern pc that doesn't support usb keyboards in the bios.

The DFI motherboards have USB Keyboard/Mouse support.

I would have expected usb keyboard support but i just simply cant find the option on my board, and it isnt on by default cuz ive tried my keyboard, the only option ive found in bios was for enabling or disabling the usb hub

You can get a PS/2 adapter for your keyboard. It should look like this:

Yup ive tried it in every usb port i have, and my keyboard doesnt seem to like me using an adapter it doesnt work, not even in windows, if i use an usb-ps2 adapter.

i know the keyboard works, i was using it up til i got my new board, it works in windows and works on every other computer i have, just cant get it working in this machines bios, its so annoying

Should work fine even with the PS/2 adapter.

its an old logitech cordless keyboard, it came in a set with a cordless mouse, i dont use the horrid ball mouse that came with it anymore, just the keyboard

I think the problem that you are experiencing is not that of the lack of USB support in the bios, but a different signal authentication between non windows state and a fully loaded windows state that exists between your keyboard and the wireless receiver.

I found ages ago that I had a similar problem that where my DiNovo keyboard would work fine in windows, but if I needed to reboot it would not work again until it either got into Windows or I re-established the connection between the receiver and the keyboard. However when I went back into Windows, I had to re-establish the connection between the 2 devices again ¬_¬.

Well, it's all pointint towards the keyboard mate. I've never had a problem with any adaptor either :confused:

If it's an old keyboard, just buy a new one. The cheap ones are only £7.

err decent cordless keyboards arnt cheap, ok their not expensive but my bank balance is already several hundred in the red

Try looking for an option in the BIOS, using a PS/2 keyboard, for an option along the lines of 'USB Legacy support' as i had to enable this for my USB keyboard to work in my mobo's RAID setup.

My keyboard also doesn't work with adapters which is why i had to find another way.
