USB Modem

Currently I am renting one for £3.50 per day on 3 network - but speed is usually restricted to 3G by poor signal quality. This adds up to ~ £100 per month.

Is it possible to buy the modem separately and add a PAYG Data package?

My Nokia E65 on T-Mobile is cheaper (£1 per day) but even slower.

You are currently paying way more than you need to. I'm not sure about pure PAYG options, but if you are prepared to sign up to a contract then you could have mobile broadband for as little as £10/month on 3 (24 month contract) or Vodafone for approx £24/month which you are allowed to cancel with 30 days notice, i.e. no long term contract.

Choose the provider that gives you the best signal in your area.

Thanks for the input.

I am working away from home for a while so PAYG makes more sense for signal coverage (I have SIMs from O2, Orange, Vodaphone, Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile).

I contacted Vodafone as they seem to have best coverage in my current area. I offered to pay quarterly in advance, but they said it had to be a monthly contract only at the moment.

Update :

I decided to buy a USB Modem + 3 SIM card, as it was cheaper than my current hire.

It arrived this afternoon and works OK - to be expected, as it's the same combo.
