Can you use any make of USB network adaptor with any router, so say i got a netgear usb with a linksys Router? would it work?

the wireless card on a laptop is broke, its not detected in device manager etc and my warranty is up on the HP laptop, think its a mobo problem that ive read.

best soultion to get a wireless connection would be a USB network adaptor right? are they anygood for general browsing and light downloading ?

Thanks :)

Yes it will work :)

Easy enough to replace broken card but if its a motherboard problem then obviously it wont be of any help.

Have you tried removing card and putting back in? Just in case its a bad contact.

You could test it using another laptop to see for sure if its the motherboard or card.

nice one thanks!

yea ive taken it out and put it back in but no luck, i think its the mobo so cant really do a lot other than usb now. Ill get one of them and see how it goes

Thanks.

If you look up the service manual for your laptop, it may not be hard to change the internal wireless card. They can be had cheap at auction sites and sometimes just need to be removed from behind a panel with two screws.

No reason why it shouldnt work but as said i would try yo replace internal card as less hassle than a usb adapter sticking out of the side/rear

Also there are pmcia cards to consider:)
