Should the USB post on a dvd recorder be able to be used for playing back video files or is it intended for other purposes?

My recorder is Chili 9200HX

Q) 1) Does this have an analogue or digital tuner ? 2) Is it possible to edit content after recording or before transfering to disc ? (eg removing adverts). 3) Can it be Firewire or USB connected to a Mac in order to transfer data ? Thanks - Jack Holland
A) The tuner is Analogue in the unit, the recorded files can be edited (basic edit facility), the OUTPUT cannot be transfered by Firewire or USB

Q) The Recorder information talks about Sky+. Can i put a raw satellite feed in the back and put my sky card in the front and record exactly like sky plus? - Ed
A) NO you would still need a SKY reciever

A) This is the DVR-9200HX

Q) Is the tuner digital (freeview) or analogue. - Harry
A) The tuner is Analogue (would require a Feeview digibox to be connected for DVB-T signals)

Q) Is this multiregion ?e.g. can it play us and polish dvd''s? - kevin smith
A) Polish DVD's are region 2 regrettably the unit is NOT Multi region

Q) Can I transfer video information from my PC via USB-Firewire or USB-USB into this machine? - Chris Ledger
A) Check the Firewire on your PC can be used for OUTPUT of video and sound if so then yes (Check with the PC supplier or manufacturer) NOT USB compatible

Q) Is there a simple way of copying a DVD to HDD? - Michael
A) Looping the output to an input is the only option it cannot be done internally (HDD to DVD can be done within the unit)

Q) Can this device record audio to CDs? - Neil Jarman
A) No it is not a CD audio recorder

Q) Could I transfer Video to the HDD through either a scart socket direct to the DVD Recorder or through the TV. I am looking to get VHS Tapes onto DVD. - Ian B
A) Yes DVD or HDD recordings can be made from external sources eg VHS, SAT or Freeview box (does not allow VHS copies from protected tapes)

A) Yes it is simply an analogue transfer (using the red/white/yellow connections)

A) No EPG is a facility on Digital television this tuner is analogue EPG recording must be done from Sky, Cable TV or Freeview boxes. It will work with NTL set top boxes.

A) No the unit does not support DIVX

A) Unfortunatley not.

A) Transfere is real time

A) Yes via SCART cable

A) NO the recording do not over write automatically

A) MP3 is not listed as supported but Audio CD's are fine

Thanks for the info guys.I have been trying to play a 5.1 ch avi file with it resulting it sound going of and on.I finally yesterday tried it with a 2 ch avi and it played perfectly.What would make it play one and not the other as it is capable of playing both from disc?
 
I'm sorry to be blunt, but chances are it doesnt always work as expected and functions in weird ways is because it's a budget player from a no-name brand. You get what you pay for.

To answer your question, maybe the 5.1 channel audio is too high bandwidth to be successfully streamed?

Thanks for your comments,i know this isn't top of the range but £200 was my budget. :) Looks like i will just have to put my 5.1 stuff to disc and just play 2ch stuff from usb.
