I have been battling with smartphone and Tablet battery life and they have coaxed up an idea in my mind !

As some modern tablets now require around 2 Amps to charge ( including my other half's Galaxy ) I assume manufacturers of Motherboards will be meeting the BC1.1 standard ( in other words increasing USB power)

However with a lot of old hardware still in existence I wondered about a workaround , to allow users to charge their smart devices from there workstation

I am tempted to try connecting a spare 5V rail to usb voltage port ! As The PSU supplies a healthy amperage . I assume I would need to cut the existing 5V track ?

Your thoughts

Alternatively I would take 5V from the PSU going to a DC jack , to power a HUB !!

Just wondered if anyone tried these theories ?
