Hi, first a huge thx to all who helped me with my pc build, particularly Sir Random. Ok, I have a very odd problem. Sometimes when I put IN or take OUT a USB connector, the pc reboots, and I get back in to a 'serious error' :S I'm using XP PRO, have 2mb-80gb ata 133 HDD. I was having probs with installing a crumby old adsl modem, and then mcafee firewall, ack! had to pee about for 3 hours after I made mistake of a firewall. Anyway, I THINK it's a USB problem, but, also, when I try to initiate certain app.s, it reboots. eg. Zone Alarm, i press button, and it reboots pc :O HL2, FINALLY went trough all the jazz, data unlocking on steam, got 100%, then, go to start game, BOOM! reboot!
Note, I HAVE got HDD and DVD-rom on SAME IDE cable. I was wondering if that maybe causing prob, not USB? Like maybe data from DVD-rom - HDD- USB or something, conflicting? Do I need like, some USB Drivers?
Plzz help guys, I know it's a puzzler. But I'm not clever enough to understand the cause of this rebooting issue :( I want to play HL2!

I'd say check your RAM...that appears to be some dodgey RAM, I used to get random reboots on a pc and it was because of dodgey RAM.

Others will know more about RAM tests etc. I just tried some other RAM and worked out like that.

Well, they aren't particullarly random, I mean, it doesn't just reboot while idle, or I'm plodding along. It seems to reboot when certain things are executed. And when I pull a USB lead out (Can't remember whether I had a particular program running), but it was my USB modem. But, I really don't know what's coursing this grief, I'm at all your mercy here :o

I noticed recently that my pc booted up from completely off when I removed a "My Book" external usb 2 hdd
So do you mean the problem could be my USB modem? or the USB sockets?
Or a driver maybe? funny thing is, today, ecause I have to try about 10 times to connect to my broadband on dialup, i tried to connect quickly, and it triggered a pc reboot! I starting to think it's problem with my connection, communicating between modem, pc and my landline, maybe :S
Also, How can i check FOR SURE, whether my RAM is kosha?
plzzz, i need HELP!!!!
