I've had this happen to me before with my keyboard, and I never quite got to the bottom of it..... Eventually, a reinstall of windows fixed the problem, which suggested to me that it was simply a setting somewhere within XP. What OS are you using?
Also, when I researched this problem I found that some USB controllers have different power saving modes. I can't remember where to change these settings, or if I ever worked it out, but this could potentially be the problem.
Ok dont think its the modem, I tried it in my old pc, the modem booted up fine with pc. I have also tried it in a pci usb 2.9 board, same thing happened
I spoke to my friend where this pc came from & he said it might be something to do with the ethernet onboard?? as i know nothing about ethernet can anyone shed some light plz.
Along the same lines, I have exactly the same with a USB mouse. I spent ages on it & never did sort it. It did the same on another PC & so I put it down to the mouse rather than the PC. Luckily it came with a converter to plug it into a PS2 socket where it is 100%. Not much help to you I know other than to indicate you may have to put up with it.
Have a look in the BIOS for options to provide USB Keyboard support in Dos etc. Might be called legacy usb support of something similar depending on your BIOS.
Power management,
''Power up on PCI device'' I have the modem plugged into the usb 2.0 pci card so I enabled it or there was another part saying ''Wake / power up on EXT. MODEM''
