USB problems after RAM upgrade

ok, so i have upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 12GB:
> 2X Kingston HyperX 4GB 1333mhz
> 2X OCZ Platinum something 2GB 1333mhz.

I know its not great to mix RAM brands, but they are the same freq. and all seem to work fine in Windows and the BIOS.

The problem is that now my USB 2.0 ports won't work properly on my motherboard (Z87 Asus Gryphon with i7 4770k), however USB 3.0 seems to work fine...

If i plug in a USB device (especially the wifi dongle), the PC will either crash immediately and reboot, or crash after a few mins of use and hang. Updated BIOS and problem persists.

Specs:
> i7 4770K
> Asus Gryphon Z87
> 2X Seagrate Barracuda 250GB 7200RPM
> 1X Samsung 830 Series 128GB SSD
> gtx 660Ti 3GB
> 700Watt PSU

> Windows 7 Ultimate SP1

Went back to 8GB RAM and now everything seems ok again...

Would this just be down to mixing brands of RAM or is it a power supply issue (more RAM = more power demand)?

What happens when you use the extra 4gb of ram together (without 8gb)?

I'm being a little unhelpful here, but to be completely honest, i don't really want to check now that i have the 8GB working, but as far as i know both sticks work fine (all of them were recognised by the BIOS and utilised by Windows)

Bad RAM or a RAM combo that the rig does not like, can cause what is known as an unstable platform. And then the unstable platform can manifest itself in different ways, such as USB plugging affecting the sensitivity of the (unstable) platform and causing crashes and reboots etc. Just my layman's take on it.

The only way to find out is to play around and you can't say its stable, at least you test it!
