USB stick encryption

Now onto the next issue......speed!! Transferring files is painfully slow. I gave up on transferring 100MB worth of pdfs and office documents after 20 minutes. Is there any way of speeding this up at all that you know of?

OMG, you're right.

Started transferring 100MB of assorted files at 1617. It's now 1636 and still going. It doesn't seem to be using any CPU.

Back to the ol' drawing board. :p

Tried something different...

Created crypto1.vol on hard disk, instead of on the usb stick.

Stored 97.8MB of files. 143 sec ; 0.68 MB/sec

Copied the crypto1.vol to usb stick. 22 sec. 4.54 MB/sec

Extracting 97.8 MB of files. 13 sec. 7.52 MB/sec

Extra step, but much faster than storing directly to USB stick.

Which software were you thinking about? There may come a time where i give up on a free solution!!

Only thing I've used that has worked really well is something designed for corporates so don't know if they have a personal/non enterprise product.

It's now called Lumension Device Control, but used to be called Securewave.

On the encrypted device when you plug it into a foriegn machine all you see is a single exe file which is the secure browser. Then when you run that it opens up like a windows explorer window, then when you select the usb drive in this list you have to enter a password to get at the files. All file transfers to and from the secure volume are handled through this browser, i.e. you can't just copy and paste to the drive in windows as such, you have to do it through the explorer type window.
