Ah. So its not actually any more secure than just a passworded one then?

Nope. Every one I've tried has "Swipe your finger or press ctrl-alt-delete to logon using a password", plus if you get the finger print wrong a few times it automatically opens a password login.

Only useful thing of fingerprint readers is the password bank. You can save the logon details for everysite you need, so to login all you need to do is swipe meaning there is no need to remember lots of different logon details.

That's the entire point, you save your password onto the system, and then the swipe of a finger finds that password, inputs it and logs you in...

Hence the option for also typing in the password, that's what the swipe is doing anyhoo :P

^^ and then you fall into the routine of not needing a password and then eventually you forget it for when you need it and then you go psycho and then you end up [cencored]..

end result: bad idea

This is exactly what happened to me. I use long passwords composed of numbers and letters that were selected randomly. I never had a problem remembering until I got a laptop with the finger print login, I started using which meant I never had to re-enter the password. The problem came due to me spending most of my free time at the climbing wall. One by one my fingerprints became unrecognizable until I was left with just my left pinky finger to log in. Now I'll tell you this for nothing, clients are not impressed when they see you awkwardly reach across your computer with your left hand everytime a password needs entering :(

We have it on our HP systems, the clients are impressed :D

We used fingerprint scanners at work briefly on our 2nd set of laptops......In one of the meetings I said - completely straight faced without realising what I was suggesting - that "we should scan multiple fingers per employee, just in case they happen to lose one."

D'oh! :D
