thinking of getting a usb stick (8gb) for installing win7 and to hold all the drivers.

Would any speed usb stick do ?

as in . . . . booting up the install of win7, the stick wont be running like it would after windows is installed I presume !!

would a faster read / write stick really be faster

Would usb2.0 or 3 make much difference

thanks for any info ;)

I used a bog standard usb2.0 sandisk one from Asda and all was fine and much faster than installing from a CD. Just use the tool that Microsoft provide

Thanks Lee, already have that and all the info.
Just wondered as im going to buy one just to use for installing and to keep drivers on.
will there be any benefit from buying a faster one over a slow one! as regards the speed of installing,,
Dont think im explaining it right though lol

I dont think the added cost of a faster pen drive would be worth it as it only takes about 10 minutes anyway

I remember when it used to take a a whole day to reinstall an OS

It may not take a whole day to install Win 7, only about 10-15 minutes to first clean boot if installing on an SSD. However, how long until all those updates are completed (that's when I say an OS is ready to use) ?

using any mem pen is better than the cd imo. i used a bog standard one and installed in no time. theres a tool for copying the windows cd to pen on microsoft website as well
