USB Stick help

Not sure if this is the right forum so i'll just post here.

My USB stick seems to have died on me. When I plug it into my computer the light on the stick comes on but the PC doesn't detect it. I've tried using a separate USB port and a different computer but no luck. It was working a few weeks ago when I took it out of my PC and it's been sitting on top of my desk for the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Any help appreciated.

Have you looked at it via windows disk manager

Yeah it isn't there.

try updating your drivers

Don't think it's the drivers, I've tried it on 3 different PCs. I'm thinking since it was a free usb from a job school thing my whole year had to go to last year I could get an identical usb from a friend and solder the data chip onto the known working usb and see if I can recover the data.

Anyone think this is a feasible idea?

go to administrator tools -> computer management -> discs and see if the drive is in there - it might need a format

As a last resort. Open it up and see what's inside, but that's when all elses fail

try a linux live cd, have found in some cases it finds things that windows point blank refuses to. but it sounds like the stick is dead

are there any lights on it, if so do the come on?

It's not there

. I guess i'll try the linux live cd and if that fails I'll ask around for a jobcentre USB on facebook

Yeah a little green light comes on when it's plugged in.
