Not sure if this is the right forum so i'll just post here.

My USB stick seems to have died on me. When I plug it into my computer the light on the stick comes on but the PC doesn't detect it. I've tried using a separate USB port and a different computer but no luck. It was working a few weeks ago when I took it out of my PC and it's been sitting on top of my desk for the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Any help appreciated.

try updating your drivers

Don't think it's the drivers, I've tried it on 3 different PCs. I'm thinking since it was a free usb from a job school thing my whole year had to go to last year I could get an identical usb from a friend and solder the data chip onto the known working usb and see if I can recover the data.

Anyone think this is a feasible idea?

go to administrator tools -> computer management -> discs and see if the drive is in there - it might need a format

try a linux live cd, have found in some cases it finds things that windows point blank refuses to. but it sounds like the stick is dead :( are there any lights on it, if so do the come on?

It's not there :(. I guess i'll try the linux live cd and if that fails I'll ask around for a jobcentre USB on facebook :p.

Yeah a little green light comes on when it's plugged in.
