USB Storage mode & broken screen?

Hello :D.

My girlfriends Android phone fell off the bed yesterday and the LCD is borked (the actual touch screen glass is fine, but the LCD it self is all white and rainbows :().

At the moment we're trying to hook it up to her laptop so she can sync everything with HTC Sync, but as the screen is broken we can't see or choose between any of the options that pop up (the ones you see when you connect the phone via USB).

My question is if there is anyway to switch the phone into USB Mass storage mode (so it acts like a normal USB storage device) or put it into a sync mode so it can be used with HTC Sync, using hardware buttons?
With my iPhone, holding down a combination of buttons for a set amount of time, boots it up in USB mode. Can I do something similar on this Android phone?
The phone is a HTC Desire Z/G2 btw.

TL;DR:
- Phone screen is broken.
- Need to get stuff off the phone.
- Phone connects to PC via USB.
- PC can't access phone, because we can't enable USB storage mode using the touch screen.

Any help, suggestions or programs you know of would be great. Thanks :).

Sounds like a tricky one. I'm assuming she's not backed up what she needs onto the MicroSD card in which case, you could remove the card and put it in a card reader.

There aren't many of us with the Desire Z on this forum, a few but not many. I've rooted mine and if I could find a procedure, it's likely to be different on a stock Z. It's been so long since I ran the phone on stock, I cannot remember exactly what normally happens when you plug in a USB cable.

I would go straight to XDA forums and ask on there. I can't believe that there's not a simple way of doing it. Good luck!!
