Is it straight forward enough to switch from using a USB connection to an ethernet one?

I'm asking on behalf of a workmate who currently connects using a BT Voyager USB modem and he recently bought a Ethernet modem (no idea which type) and installed a NIC in his PC.

How do you go about changing the setup so as the PC connects using his new equipment as opposed to currently connecting via his USB connection?

Is it a matter of going into Network connections & disabling the USB one & enabling the Ethernet connection or does he need to register his new equipment with BT? I ask this as years ago I remember having to quote a MAC address or something when I was setting up with my cable connection although that was a few years back so it's a bit vague.

If anyone could shed any light on the topic it would be very much appreciated.

pretty much that, remove the USB connection from the connection list, and set up the ethernet connection as default.

At the most you may need to enter the connection settings into the ethernet modem, and tell IE/Outlook to connect via lan or similar.

Furthermore you've got much more flexibility with ethernet connection as apposed to USB. USB wasn't designed to handle WAN and LAN protocols. It had to adapt.

Thats good news about not having MAC address registration with ADSL as I vaguely remember having to do it with NTL but I'd no idea on what way an ADSL set up went. Sounds pretty straight forward then. Thanks guys. :)
