USB to FAT16

Hey hey,

A work colleague has a 2gb memory stick which he has downloaded an update for his TV to. However, when he puts the stick into the TV it states it needs to be FAT16.

He has tried to format to FAT 16, but his PC does not allow him to do this he says!! (windows 7)

I am going to take a look at the drive next week, but is there any links i can send him so he can do this himself?

No idea if this works or not but:

Right mouse click on the drive and click "Format" change the "File System" to "FAT" and the "Allocation Unit Size" to "Default". That will format the drive as FAT16 with a 16KB allocation unit size. FAT and FAT16 are the same thing, and the default allocation unit for FAT16 is 16KB.

Boot with a linux cd and run mkfs.vfat /dev/usbdevicehere

no linux cd and he isn't that clever when it comes to pc things.

You can do it, but Windows makes you use the command line.

Try format x: /fs:fat

where x is driver letter of drive.
