USB1 vs USB2 speed.. Cable dependant?

Hi,

I am having problems getting a proper speed from my Topfield PVR to my laptop. Both it and the Laptop I am using has a USB2 port, the cable however appears to be a standard USB1 cable. The question is, for you need a USB2 cable to get USB2 speeds, or are they all the same?

I am getting around 50mb/Min, so less than 1mb/sec. Is 1mb too fast for USB1?

I'll only buy a new (USB2, hi-speed) cable if its going to make a difference.

They're all the same afaik.

Buying cables is a joke. You can either go into a shop and pay as much as (I've seen them at) £20 for a usb cable. Or you can go on ebay and get 5 for a pound.

or got to the poundland shops
they have usb cables and usb 2 hubs all for a pound funnily enough
