Hello,

Can someone tell me if its ok to use a 3m usb2 cable for an external usb2 hard drive? The hard drive came with a 1m ish cable, but I want to replace it with a 3m belkin cable, not sure if it will cause data corruption issues though.

Thanks.

It will be fine, as a standard usb can be up to 5m without repeaters. This is limited by transmition strength. With repeaters you can head up to 30 Meters before you run into synchronisation problems. Interference is unlikely to be a problem as usb cables are designed with this sort of length in mind and are shielded sufficientley assuming you dont have them wound round a mains cable or anything stupid ;)
