USB3 External Cases for HDDs

I've never heard of an external closure thats allowed a hdd to melt.

You do not need active cooling.

yeah CyberMav not paying attention and Pike clearly doesnt understand I am aware that HDDs do not physically melt... but that passive cooling isn't generally good for HDDs in external cases

What did you end up getting then?

Manufacturers have sold drives in passive enclosures for years, even for consoles, it's only recently they've added active cooling to them.

no idea.. it was 2+ years ago.. I go through hardware so quicK I didnt even remember the post! I do remember some external HDD cases allowing HDDs to get awful warm (which does shorten lifespan) - I probably got an icybox or some Alu case...

If the drives are working most of the time then they would need to be cooled unless you like 40c+ temps. If it was just for backup\light duties then any case would do.

No i just checked looks like a lot of the threads on bottom of the first page are up to 3 years old. Not like cpu and gpu sections of the forum lol.
