usb3 Hard drive 1 - 2 TB

looking to get a new usb3 hard drive
must not have a seperate power supply as will run from a TV as well
Spec me a decent reliable one as seen a few reports of some losing data
whats good what's to avoid

Why can't the TV use one that has a separate power supply?

Desktop externals offer far more reliable usage than USB powered drives.
